Tampa Theatre, , a beloved historic landmark, has delighted audiences for over 30 years with its iconic Sunday series featuring Holiday and Summer Classics. Building on the success of recent additions like Family Favorites, Black Love, and September Sing-Along Sundays, the Theatre is now introducing an exciting new lineup for 2025.

Thanks to the addition of the state-of-the-art Taylor Screening Room, Tampa Theatre is launching the Big Picture series. This midweek offering will showcase films on select Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m., with each month exploring unique themes, directors, or genres.

The Big Picture arrives at Tampa Theatre

Big Picture will let us dive deeper into what makes these films special,” says James DeFord, Film Program Manager for Tampa Theatre. “We want to spark conversations and uncover surprising connections between movies. You might have seen Casablanca a hundred times, but watching it alongside To Have and Have Not or Who Framed Roger Rabbit? might reveal something new.”

The series kicks off in January with the theme Welcome to the Show, inspired by Tampa Theatre’s mission to entertain, educate, and enlighten. The lineup includes:

  • The Last Picture Show – Jan. 8, 8 p.m. (1971 / R)
  • Singin’ in the Rain – Jan. 15, 8 p.m. (1952 / G)
  • Ed Wood – Jan. 22, 8 p.m. (1994 / R)
  • Cinema Paradiso – Jan. 29, 8 p.m. (1988 / PG)

What’s old is new again at Tampa Theatre

February’s theme, Love On The Rocks, will explore the complexities of romance, while March will highlight some of the greatest films ever made, as recognized by Sight and Sound magazine.

“We want to introduce audiences to new films that could become their favorites,” DeFord adds. “And we want to give fresh perspectives on beloved classics. It’s about zooming in on details and zooming out to see the bigger picture.”

Tickets for Big Picture are $10, or $7 for Theatre Members ($14.50/$11.50 for silent films). January tickets are on sale now at the Franklin Street Box Office or online at tampatheatre.org.
