Tampa earns perfect score for LGBTQ+ inclusivity

Tampa has once again secured a perfect score for its dedication to inclusivity and protection of the LGBTQ+ community. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual Municipal Equality Index awarded the city a top rating of 100, underscoring Tampa’s commitment to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all.

The Municipal Equality Index evaluates more than 500 cities nationwide, examining how municipal laws, policies, and services support LGBTQ+ residents and employees. Tampa excelled across all five categories, which include non-discrimination laws, efforts to support LGBTQ+ employees, public safety, and fair law enforcement practices.

Tampa’s commitment to diversity

Mayor Jane Castor expressed pride in the city’s achievement, emphasizing Tampa’s commitment to diversity. “Tampa prides itself on its diversity and the differences that create a vibrant and unique society,” she said. “We must do everything we can to ensure all individuals, particularly historically marginalized groups like the LGBTQ+ community, feel safe, welcome, and valued in our thriving city.”

The perfect score reflects Tampa’s ongoing efforts to build an inclusive community where everyone can thrive. With its strong policies and proactive support for LGBTQ+ rights, the city continues to set a standard for equality and fairness.
