In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the City of Tampa Solid Waste Department will begin collecting storm debris on Monday, September 30. The effort focuses on clearing vegetative debris, damaged household items, and construction debris to help the city recover.
Residents ready for immediate debris removal can request service by calling the Solid Waste Call Center at (813) 274-8811. For those needing more time, citywide collection starts on Monday, October 7. From that point forward, crews will regularly canvass neighborhoods, eliminating the need for call-in requests.

“Our top priority is ensuring Tampa’s families and neighborhoods recover swiftly and safely,” said Tampa Mayor Jane Castor. “We’re working hard to clean up the debris and help our community return to normal as soon as possible.”
Guidelines for easy solid waste and debris collection in Tampa
Residents are urged to follow specific guidelines for smooth collection:
- Preparation: Place household and construction debris separately from vegetative debris. Ensure all items are at least three feet away from obstructions like vehicles.
- Vegetative Debris: Shrubs, palm fronds, tree limbs, and other storm-related vegetation should be piled up, placed in non-city-issued containers, or stored in yard waste paper bags.
To accommodate the extra debris, the McKay Bay Transfer Station will extend its operating hours:
