Tampa Council approves $3.2 million in SHIP funds to help homeowners impacted by hurricanes

The Tampa City Council voted unanimously Thursday to approve $3.2 million in State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP) funds aimed at helping homeowners impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The funding will assist residents with mortgage payments, home repairs, and insurance deductible costs.

The relief package will provide up to $5,000 in mortgage assistance, $20,000 for home repairs, and up to $10,000 for insurance deductible reimbursements, with a total maximum of $20,000 per household.

Vital funds help homeowners stay afloat while they rebuild in Tampa

“We have to remember that some residents are still displaced, renting elsewhere while trying to repair their homes,” said Abbye Feeley, Development and Economic Opportunity Administrator. “These funds will help them stay afloat as they work to rebuild.”

The City of Tampa will partner with ICF Incorporated, LLC, to distribute the funds through an application process. Residents interested in applying must meet income eligibility requirements, with more details on how to apply available soon.

How to qualify for assistance

“Anything we can do to ease the burden on our neighbors struggling to recover after these devastating storms is an important step forward,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “I appreciate the City Council’s support for this initiative.”

To qualify for assistance, residents must live within Tampa city limits and meet income guidelines. Further information on the application process will be provided shortly. We will update this story as more details are made available.
