City announces first annual waterfront apple pie throwdown during Boom by the Bay

Tampa loves a food competition. On Thursday, July 4, the first Annual Apple Pie Throwdown will take place during Boom by the Bay at Julian B Lane Riverfront Park in downtown Tampa. Presented by the Tampa Downtown Partnership, the City of Tampa, and Mayor Jane Castor, this event features an apple pie tasting zone with unique takes on the classic American dessert. Participating vendors will compete for the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards.

Perspective vendors must submit applications to Ivy Lupco (ilupco@tampasdowntown.com) by Friday, May 31. Applications can be found here.

The application notes that there is no booth fee to participate and each selected apple pie vendor will receive the following:

  • $150 stipend for staff time / product
  • Serving plates & forks for consumption
  • 10’x10′ Tent
  • Custom signage (will include the event logo and the restaurant name/logo) (1) 6ft themed table linen (1) 6ft kwick cover

Boom by the Bay at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park (1001 N Blvd, Tampa, FL 33607) is Tampa’s premier Independence Day celebration, featuring family-friendly activities, live entertainment, apple pie eating competition, and a fireworks display. The event is free and open to the public. Official details haven’t been released, but you can keep checking the event website for updates.
