The iconic restauarant Goody Goody Burger opened in Tampa in 1925 and closed in 2005. The restaurant's popular butterscotch pies, hearty burgers, legendary sauce and handcut fries made it a staple restaurant for many Tampa natives. In 2015, Richard Gonzmart, owner of the Columbia Restaurant Group, purchased Goody Goody. Gonzmart announced on Facebook June 17 that he is confident the restaurant will be open in Hyde Park the third week of August.
The restaurant has been testing a variety of classic menu items made from the same recipes Goody Goody used years ago. Prepare for heaping portions of Goody Goody sauce, coffee cake, onion ringsand chili cheese dogs. In a time when the Tampa restaurant scene seems to be nearing zenith, the return of Goody Goody represents a true revival of classic comfort food.
We must note that our sweet tooth is anxiously anticipating the first sip of a hand spun espresso milkshake with a steak sandwich on a hot summer evening. The restaurant will also serve breakfast all day. While you wait for the official opening, you can follow Goody Goody on Facebook to follow the restaurant's progress. They've been posting video testomonials from several key Tampa officials, from Mayor Bob Buckhorn to retired Judge E. J. Salcines. Goody Goody Burgers, 1601 West Swann Avenue.
