Sparkman Wharf is really taking shape. Tampa’s upcoming waterfront destination for work, outdoor recreation and dining today introduced Gallito, an all-new, modern taqueria with a twist on Mexican street food. The concept was created by Chef Ferrell Alvarez and restauranteur Ty Rodriguez.
Joining Foundation Coffee, a well-known Tampa coffee purveyor, and Whatever Pops, a cold treats and popsicle outpost, Gallito will be located within the dining garden at Sparkman Wharf and will complement the additional food concepts that will soon be announced. Together, the dining garden concepts will celebrate great food and community, with inventive new ideas and menus not found anywhere else in the city.
“We chose to partner with Sparkman Wharf and open Gallito so we could be part of the exciting re-development of Channelside. Downtown Tampa is experiencing a historic, urban growth period and we think this is the perfect opportunity to plant roots there and contribute to the city’s ongoing renaissance,” said Alvarez of Gallito.
Chef Ferrell Alvarez was a 2017 James Beard Best Chef South nominee. Alvarez and Rodriguez are best known for their partnership at Seminole Heights culinary destination Rooster & the Till, which was recognized as the #1 restaurant 2018 the Tampa Bay Times, and the forthcoming Nebraska Mini Mart.
The dining garden, along with an open lawn for recreation and relaxation, and Fermented Reality—an open-air, waterside biergarten with over 30 taps—will create a dynamic park-like environment at Sparkman Wharf. Currently under construction by Tampa-based contractor EWI, the dining garden, biergarten, and recreational lawn are slated to open in October 2018.
