The Skyway Bridge will be lit up in purple in June as part of an Alzheimer’s Awareness campaign.

5.8 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s. June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month, and throughout the month, the Alzheimer’s Association in Florida’s Gulf Coast is conducting regional events to help raise awareness for the disease.

On Sunday, June 20, the City of Tampa will be lighting all buildings in the downtown area in purple including the Skyway Bridge to drive awareness, and show support in the fight against the disease.

A Drive and Donate event is slated for Saturday June 12. It will run from 11am-1:30pm at Harpoon Harry’s (225 South Franklin Street).

Tampa residents will get the chance to participate in The Longest Ride. The summer solstice and the day with the most light –Tampa Bay residents will join thousands of advocates across the world to participate in The Longest Day ride/parade across town. Ride ends during sunset at the Skyway Bridge observation area as the bridge lights up purple.

A Polaris Slingshot Three-Wheel Batmobile will lead the ride. The ride begins at 5:30pm and riders will meet at 1105 Causeway Blvd., Brandon, FL at Ford’s Garage.
