Donut mind if we do. A new donut hotspot is setting its sights on the city of Tampa, The Salty Donut. The Miami-based donut chain is a small batch, craft donut shop with shops across the country. Its chef-made specialties have included specials such as Key Lime Meringue Pie, Affogato, Peaches and Cream, and Double Chocolate Cookie.
In addition to delicious glutinous donuts, the shop menu also includes a vegan cinnamon roll donut, and a gluten-free sea salt and chocolate chip donut. The entire concept began way back in 2014. Before there was a brick-and-mortar, owners Amanda Pizarro and Andy Rodriguez were renting space in a commissary kitchen and popping up at Miami events in a 1950’s vintage aljoa camper. The pair had then, and maintains today a fierce passion for a damn. fine donut.
Chef made donuts travel from Miami to Tampa
The pair dreamed of a community gathering place “centered around donuts, coffee, and good vibes. A place you could have a first date, celebrate a birthday, or cheer you up after a long day.” The team is set to open its first ever Tampa location at 1519 W. Swann Avenue in Hyde Park Village. The news was first reported by The Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The Salty Donut news follows another celebrate donut chain coming to the Tampa Bay region. Shipley Do-Nuts is also coming soon to the area. Mochinut, a mochi donut restaurant that also serves Korean fried corndogs, also just debuted in Temple Terrace.
Nicola’s, an old school Tampa institution, just expanded with a second location to enjoy their award-winning donuts, too.
