Registration is still open for those who want to build a craft for the Red Bull Flugtag in Tampa – you have until September 19 to apply!

One of the wildest spectacles on Earth is returning to Tampa for the first time in more than a decade. The iconic Red Bull Flugtag will come to Tampa Bay on Saturday, November 9, drawing over 100,000 spectators to witness daring and creative feats of flight. Local thrill-seekers are encouraged to apply for a chance to compete, with registration opening on July 8.

We’ve all seen online videos of man-made, human-powered crafts soaring off towers and (eventually) plunging into the water. This worldwide phenomenon is returning to our favorite body of water for the first time since 2011. Teams build their crafts—powered solely by human strength and launched from a raised platform—and compete to see who can fly the farthest before landing, using only a running start for momentum.

Take flight at the incredible Red Bull Flugtag

Red Bull Flugtag Tampa Bay will occur at the Tampa Convention Center, located at 333 S Franklin St, featuring a 27-foot-tall flight deck overlooking the water. The free event was announced today at a press conference at the convention center, with Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan in attendance.

On the afternoon of Red Bull Flugtag, teams of up to five people will compete by launching their unique airships off the 27-foot flight deck in front of more than 100,000 expected spectators. Up to 40 teams will be judged on their craft’s design, the creativity of their pre-flight skit, and the distance of their flight. They will compete for exclusive Red Bull experiences, meet-and-greets with Red Bull athletes, and more. An exciting lineup of judges, to be announced later, will select the winners.
