The Paleta Bar, a gourmet Mexican ice pop shop, opens in Tampa

The Paleta Bar has just opened at 8436 W Hillsborough Ave in Tampa — and it is the must-visit spot of the spring and summer in the Sunshine State.

First, what is a paleta?

Paletas are a Mexican frozen treat made from fresh natural fruits such as strawberry and mango or made from rich creamy ingredients such as Chocolate and Sicilian pistachio. Though fruits are a common base ingredient for a typical Mexican paleta, more milk-based ice cream paletas are also available.

Fresh fruit in every bite

The Paleta Bar’s pops are high quality and billed as both delicious and healthy, since they are produced from natural fruits.

The Paleta Bar has locations across New Mexico and Texas, and its Tampa location is the first in the state of Florida. Customers can build their own pop, but the pop shop also has several signature and fan favorite combos to guide your taste buds.

One, the Magic Paleta, features a Taro base with white chocolate and fruity pebbles. The transfixing Rainbow Paletta features a bubblegum base with chocolate and sprinkles. The famous fruit paleta topped with tajin and chammy and even more mixed fruit is a crowd favorite, too.

You can get a full look at the menu on The Paleta Bar’s website.

Horchata pops are on the menu

The Paleta Bar officially opened at the end of March. I highly recommend you get a horchata pop on your visit. If you love a vibrant dessert, go for the lime paleta. One more item to whet your appetite: the paleta mangonada is the best way to cool off in this Florida weather. Frozen mangos are blended with Paleta’s orange pineapple agua.

Paleta Bar’s array of agua frescas are the perfect local refresher.

The Paleta Bar is open 11am-9pm Monday through Thursday, and 11am-10pm Friday through Sunday.
