New reality show “Meet My Abuela” was filmed entirely in the Tampa area

A giant mural featuring blue skies, and historic buildings is painted on a brick wall

Lights, camera, Tampa! The shine is on the city of Tampa and the greater Tampa area as a new romantic reality show has filmed in our neck of the woods. The show is titled “Meet My Abuela” and it represents a partnership between Visit Florida, Visit Tampa Bay, and Film Tampa Bay. These production partnerswant to create captivating stories on the screen, but they also want to showcase all that the Tampa Bay region has to offer and entice those outside of our city to come and visit.

“Will Abuela’s love for you translate to the one you love? When young dating lives are the subject of the family dinner table, Abuela’s opinion reigns supreme. Will she approve or won’t she? We turn this age-old process of familial judgment into a snappy dating show, layered with culture, age, and comedy.”

This series is made up of 15-minute episodes perfect for binging that feature young couples across the area. Each is seeking final approval from their Hispanic grandmas. “Meet My Abuela” is sweet, charming, disarmingly funny, and has some of the finest background scenery in all of streaming. Tampa’s cinematography is on point.

You can watch episodes now on YouTube courtesy of Visit Florida. Some locales we spotted in the trailers for the show include The Candle Pour in Hyde Park Village, Tampa Bay Grand Prix, The University of Tampa, Blind Tiger – Ybor City, Sparkman Wharf, and Old Meeting House Ice Cream.

Visit St. Pete-Clearwater created a similar fiction series, Life’s Rewards, on Amazon Prime geared toward driving tourism and showcasing signature spots throughout the area. That show is still available to stream and enjoy at home.
