Mad Dogs & Englishmen, the beloved South Tampa pub, is preparing for a fresh start. The pub has moved to a new location just down the street from its original restaurant at 4914 S. MacDill Avenue. Reservations are now open for the new space beginning on January 29.

The new venue will feature a cozy atmosphere, a gastro-pub-inspired menu, and many community events. Recent video clips of the new location make it feel like a dreamy English cottage with a stone facade, a quaint outdoor patio, gorgeous green booth seats, a large fireplace, and tons of art on the walls. It may be the most photogenic new restaurant in the city.

Mad Dogs & Englishmen, the “hidden gem on MacDill,” has been a staple of Tampa’s dining scene for over 30 years. The pub was founded in 1991 by Wilton Morley and Rick “The Colonel” Craig with more than just food in mind. They wanted to create a space where the community could gather, enjoy live music, sip on a great pint, and indulge in classic British dishes—all with a side of Morley’s trademark wit and storytelling.

Oxford Commons owners partner with Mad Dogs

In 2022, the restaurant partnered with long-time friends Blake Casper and Alison Casper Adams, owners of Oxford Commons, a hospitality company with several concepts, including Oxford Exchange. Together, they embarked on a new venture to more than double the size of the original restaurant in a thoughtfully designed space just down the street.

“The time had come for us to think about what was next,” said Morley. “And we had a special relationship with Blake since he worked here before college. We’ve stayed in touch all these years, so partnering with him and Allison made sense, and we couldn’t be more excited about introducing Mad Dogs 2.0 to the Tampa community. There isn’t anything like it!”

A fresh take on the classic British pub

The new Mad Dogs & Englishmen space spans 6,000 square feet and offers a fresh take on the classic British pub. Expect multiple dining areas, including a cozy fireplace lounge, a “Moroccan Room,” dog-friendly patios, and two bars. While you’ll still find beloved British dishes like Fish ‘N Chips and Shepherd’s Pie, Chef Jeff Clark adds creative new items like Stuffed Peppadews, Aubergine Bolognese, and Tuna Tartare. Plus, weekend brunch and traditional tea service will be on the menu.

The extra space also means more community-focused events, like Sunday roasts, Trivia Tuesdays, a book club, and classes like “How to Pour the Perfect Pint.” And, of course, there will be plenty of TVs for Manchester United fans to catch the action.

“This project is significant because of my connection to the restaurant,” said Casper. “We were cautious about honoring Mad Dog’s special soul, which Wilton brought to life in the old space. Each design choice helps tell a story, all baked in the comfort, tradition, and hospitality that Mad Dog’s is known for. We look forward to creating more memories when we open our doors at our new home!”
