La Segunda Bakery’s Cuban bread arriving at more Publix locations

More Publix locations in the Tampa Bay region could begin carrying it soon, according to the post.

La Segunda Bakery just can’t stop growing. The celebrate cafe should open its planned St. Petersburg location before the end of the year.

The bakery was also just listed among the 100 best bakeries in the country by Food & Wine. Here’s what the site had to say about this local gem:

“Cuban bread, handmade by a small army of lifers, still with the signature palm frond running the length of each loaf, the way it’s been done for more than a century. Any further questions? Thought not. Family-owned since day one, a second, sit-down location finally opened not long ago—come in the morning for too much cafe con leche and buttered toast, otherwise known as one of Tampa’s best breakfasts.”

Juan Moré joined a co-op of fellow bakers and cigar makers at the start of World War I. Together they opened three bakeries: La Primera, La Segunda and La Tercera in Ybor City. When the other bakeries folded, Moré purchased La Segunda from his partners. Situated inside an Ybor landmark at 2512 North 15th Street, La Segunda has been tantalizing the taste buds of culinary enthusiasts since 1915.

A Tampa tradition since 1915

Today Anthony Albert Moré and his son, Anthony Copeland Moré, keep Juan’s dream alive by producing 18,000 loaves of Cuban bread daily.

Diehard dining fans who can’t often make it out to Ybor City are in for a treat. Follow the restaurant on Facebook for daily operations updates.
