Kōsen, a new omakase restaurant, will join the already impressive roster of restaurants in Tampa Heights in 2023 (it’s one of our most anticipated new restaurants). The owners of the restaurant, and the founders of the Bento empire, just received a huge accolade from the James Beard Foundation. Johnny and Jimmy Tung are nominated for Outstanding Restaurateur.
“We are incredibly humbled to be recognized next to these amazing pioneers in the industry. Without our hardworking team and supportive community, this would not be possible,” said the Tungs in a joint statement. The Kosen team wrote on Instagram, “Humbled is an understatement. What a very proud moment and career highlight for our co-founders.”

The pair have worked every type of job you could imagine in the food service industry ahead of creating their massive Bento Kitchen concept. You can visit Bento’s most recent pop up at Armature Works in Tampa Heights.
Their new venture, Kōsen, will feature a menu by renowned Chef Wei Chen. He comes from the Michelin starred restaurant Masa. The 18-course menu curated by Wei Chen will run $250, and will assuredly be worth every penny. Positioned underneath the Pearl at 307 W Palm Avenue, Kosen will privately host 10-seats at the sushi bar and 25 booth seats in the dining room.
Prepare to be lured in by shell-shaped lighting design in the private omakase room where Chef Wei Chen will be ready to wow. Kosen is a modern, high-end omakase restaurant from the team behind the Bento empire Johnny and Jimmy Tung. There will also be a $150 10-course tasting menu.
An official opening date for Kōsen is still TBA, but you can keep up with restaurant by following it on Instagram.
