For those who know and love King State Coffee, the news of their café’s closure feels like a punch to the gut. Located in Tampa, this café has long been a cherished spot, filled with good vibes, a great team, creative merchandise, and unforgettable coffee. It’s no wonder Food & Wine once named it one of the best cafés in America. However, reading the announcement that King State Coffee would be moving on from its beloved location at 520 E Floribraska Avenue stirred an unexpected wave of grief in this blogger.

The owners just announced that Wedneday, October 16 will be its final day of service. On October 15, it will host a pizza patio party. The October 16 festivities will include your inal chance to grab some merch, while enjoy the coffee shop vibes. In the evening they’ll host a BOGO margarita special and patio party. There’s a silver lining, though. While the café will close, this change allows the ownership team to continue their mission without the demands and stress of running a brick-and-mortar space. Selfishly, I wish this Tampa gem could last forever. But it’s not over just yet. King State will keep things lively through October with a series of exciting events.

On Instagram, the ownership team shared: “Towards the end of October, we will be transferring out of 520 for good and solely focusing on continuing to roast coffee and brew beer for the masses! We are working on getting a new operator in here that will treat this space well and will allow King State to still be a part of Tampa.”

King State announces a slew of events ahead of its closure

Owners Nate Young and Tim McTague opened King State Coffee in 2019, and it quickly became a go-to destination for food lovers, coffee enthusiasts, and cocktail connoisseurs alike. While the café era may be ending, King State will continue roasting coffee and brewing beer for Tampa and beyond. So, let’s raise a cup (or a glass) to the memories and the good times still ahead.

A final message from the owners: “We can’t say enough, how much we love y’all. How much we appreciate all the love and support from this community of people over the last 5 years. It is truly has been ups n downs. And even in the downs, it was all worth it. Come say “see ya later” to our RIPPING staff! Tip them well, buy them shots, give them hugs. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. We’ll see tonight and tomorrow! Always and forever…”
