The day after  Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill raising the minimum salary for teachers in the state, he made another major education announcement.

On Thursday, June 25, DeSantis signed a bill that will nearly quadruple the number of private school vouchers in the state of Florida. This is intended to grow eligibility for more middle income families across the state.

That program, The Family Empowerment Scholarship, was created to give students taxpayer-funded scholarships to attend private schools, according to a CBS 12 report.

29,000 more children will have school choice this coming year as a result of the bill, according to the Governor.

The governor’s visit comes as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to grow in the state. Florida has recorded more than 5,000 new cases for the second day in a row.
