Florida Orchestra announces wild Beethoven x Coldplay fusion concert this May

The Florida Orchestra on stage

Tampa Bay is about to experience a musical performance like it’s never seen before. The Florida Orchestra is hosting Beethoven x Coldplay for one night only on Thursday, May 25 at 8 pm in The Mahaffey Theater in St. Pete.

The fusion concert is a merging of musical giants, combining the classical works of Beethoven with Coldplay’s modern-day hits for a musical experience unlike anything the city has experienced before. In addition to the famed Florida Orchestra, three spectacular vocalists will take the stage to complete the moving and anthemic performance.

To bring this spectacular show to life, creator and conductor Steve Hackman fuses the music of Beethoven’s famed Eroica Symphony with the melodies and lyrics of Coldplay’s greatest hits, including Viva La Vida, Yellow, The Scientist and more. The genre-bending performance is in the region for one night only, and tickets are available here, starting at $18.

The Florida Orchestra performs nearly 100 concerts annually in the Tampa Bay Area, including their popular annual series, Pops in the Park. The award-winning group traces its roots back nearly 100 years to individual orchestras, and its future was secured when the Tampa Philharmonic and the St. Petersburg Symphony merged in 1966 to create what is now known as The Florida Orchestra.

While their accolades and awards run deep, we’ll admit that one of our favorites – and the one celebrated the world over – was their performance alongside Whitney Houston in her iconic rendition of the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXV. It was the first time an orchestra had performed at a Super Bowl, and to this day it remains the most celebrated anthem performance in the game’s history.

Suffice to say, The Florida Orchestra is highly experienced with classic composers and modern pop stars alike, making them the perfect group to bring this fusion of Beethoven and Coldplay to life.

Tickets for Beethoven x Coldplay can be secured here. The show takes place Thursday, May 25 at 8 pm at the Duke Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater.
