Water Street Tampa is celebrating its very first holiday season. Its gorgeous Christmas tree, dazzling array of lights, giant-size rose gold teddy berry, and festive set pieces have transformed it into a winter wonderland. I’d call it Tampa’s own Rockefeller Plaza. One of the biggest events of its year will be the Promenade, a European-inspired outdoor market that will feature nearly 60 local vendors. The event will take place on December 8 from 5pm-8pm.

Guests are invited for an evening of shopping, strolling and discovering unique gifts set to the picture-perfect backdrop of holiday décor. For guests feeling creative, the Holiday Promenade offers curated Creation Stations, including wreath making and cooking decorating, happening in Raybon Plaza. Creation
Stations have limited availability and require a fee and registration.

The Water Street Promenade breakdown:

  • 50-60 local vendors along Water Street and throughout the Water Street Tampa neighborhood
  • Creation Stations in Raybon Plaza, including wreath making and cookie decorating
  • A gift wrapping station benefitting the Lighting Foundation
  • Various live seasonal entertainment

Those interested in participating the wreath making workshop can sign up online. A holiday cookie decorating class also has spots available. You can learn more about the event on Water Street Tampa’s website.

This is a free community event that will certainly add some sparkle to your holidays. Need more Tampa markets? We’ve compiled a huge list of markets happening in both Tampa and St. Petersburg this December. Additionally, we’ve crafted a list of our favorite small businesses you can support this holiday season in Tampa.

Urban Air Adventure Park, the largest indoor adventure park operator in the world and part of the youth enrichment growth-focused platform Unleashed Brands, is expanding its presence in Florida with a new franchise agreement that will bring a total new parks of the family entertainment center to Tampa Bay. The fun centers include rock walls, glow in the dark mini golf, a cafe with indulgent snacks, indoor skydiving, trampolines, battle beams, a full arcade, bowling, go karts, and more. This is the ultimate birthday destination.

The agreement is a partnership between Thomas Garcia, an existing Urban Air franchisee who operates two successful parks in Albuquerque, NM and Littleton, CO and Greg Dunn, who has worked in the asset management industry for 25 years and was looking for a fresh investment as the next phase of his career. Dunn has known Garcia for years and was aware of the experience he’s had building Urban Air parks, including the popularity in local communities and the success financially. Having three kids, Dunn says he was drawn to the business model.

Go karts, arcade games, and laser tag under one roof

“Urban Air is innovative in how they developed and cultivated their attractions to make it different than the competitors. It’s a unique experience for customers and this business is not a fad. I like that it’s affordable for families and a repeatable experience that a kid is going to want to go back and do over again,” said Dunn. “This is a business I can feel good about owning.”

Under the new agreement, the first park is expected to open in Salt Lake City in the next 12-18 months, followed shortly by a park in Tampa Bay and another in the Salt Lake City region.

Urban Air is the largest indoor adventure park operator in the world with over 20 different attractions such as intense ropes courses, Urban Air’s Sky Rider, Battle Beams, laser tag, dodgeball courts, electric Go-Karting, obstacle courses and more. Every park also offers an easy-to-execute, state-of-the-art, fast-casual café.

Top indoor adventure in Tampa Bay

The park already has locations in New Tampa (6250 Commerce Palms), Brandon, Port Richey, Lakeland, and Orlando. Its new Tampa area locations are still TBA.

Visit Urban Air Adventure Park’s website for more info on booking a party, or visiting for the day.

The Stone Soup Company is my top comfort food spot in all of Tampa. Its owner and entire in-house team are community fixtures who have worked tirelessly to feed their loyal customers, and support those most in need in Ybor City and beyond. Former owner and CEO Ilya Benjamin just announced he would be retiring, and will covert the restaurant to an employee-owned model.

“I wanted to share an exciting update that on November 1, 2022, myself the owner of The
Stone Soup Company made the incredible decision to sell 100% of my equity to transition the
business to an emplovee-owned company with the help of Teamshares, a national company
helping small businesses become employee owned,” wrote Benjamin in a statement posted on Facebook.

Benjamin continues, “It allows to us to retire early as we set course for the next chapter in our lives while
leaving behind a Legacy for our employees. This ensures that Stone Soup can never be sold
again and will around for many years of growth.”

Following the sale of Stone Soup, Teamshares will hire a President of this Tampa Company. Stone Soup gained renown amongst locals for its sensational Cuban sandwich, and irresistible brunch offerings. We’re happy to see this institution stay the course here in Tampa.

“I will be around for the next ninety days so come in say hello, have a drink with me, and can
laugh about old times,” wrote Benjamin. “I promise I will be around and work in our community to make a
contribution. Lastly, i wanted to thank all of you for making Stone Soup Company what it is
today and for your loyalty, my family and staff can’t thank you enough.”

Keep up with Stone Soup on Facebook. Visit the restaurant at 1919 E 7th Avenue.

New Orleans-based Fat Boy’s Pizza is targeting franchise expansion in Tampa. The company plans to open up to 10 locations within the Tampa market, according to a press release. This pizzeria is known for its gigantic slices. It’s a workout just hoisting up one of these savory, cheesy delicacies.

This restaurant has a challenge that will surely whet the appetite of competitive eaters in the city of Tampa.  Eat an entire 2-foot slice of pizza in 7 minutes or less and receive a Fat Boy’s Pizza T-Shirt and a $20 gift card. If you beat the current record held by Joey Chestnut (39 seconds), you win $10.000. I think I’ll wave the white flag on this one.

Fat Boy’s Pizza boasts the World’s Biggest Slice and has become increasingly known for its whopping 30-inch pies, delectable appetizers, full bar and passionate community involvement. The concept was initially founded in 2019 by Gabe Corchiani, a businessman and restauranter who hoped to bring a family-friendly restaurant serving New York style pizza to his home state of Louisiana.

Fat Boys currently has six locations operating throughout Louisiana and Mississippi, with two locations opening in Houston next year and another five in development.

“We’re excited for Fat Boy’s Pizza to begin taking steps towards opening new locations through franchising and providing more communities with our delicious food and family friendly atmosphere,” Gabe Corchiani, CEO and founder, said in the press release. “Tampa is a large, diverse market that can easily accommodate at least ten locations that will allow our brand to build brand awareness, management, and supply chain efficiencies.”

Gabe Corchiani opened Fat Boy’s Pizza with wife, Karen, in 2019. Gabe was inspired to create massive pies and bring them to New Orleans. The first location blossomed on Metairie Road and quickly the love for the biggest slice began to spread all throughout the Gulf Coast area.

Official locations are still TBA. Follow Fat Boys on Facebook for updates on their Tampa expansion.

Tampa International Airport’s giant flamingo needs a name. Now, the Airport is offering one lucky winner the chance to name the iconic bird. The area’s own brilliant pink kaiju greets travelers pre-security near The Shoppes at Bayshore. A serene, reflective instillation above the flamingo creates a floating feeling as you approach the sculpture.

The 21-foot flamingo, located in the Main Terminal, has become a meeting point and photo destination for travelers, tourists and locals alike. This colorful, floor-to-ceiling sculpture created by artist Matthew Mazzotta is hard to miss.

While the formal title of the art piece is “HOME,” the artist and TPA agreed the flamingo needs a name – and to let you choose what that name will be in a Name The Flamingo Contest.

Along with christening TPA’s fabulous feathered friend, the winner of the free Name The Flamingo Contest will win some stellar prizes:

  • 4 nonstop, roundtrip tickets for themselves and 3 companions on Silver Airways
  • A VIP Experience package to Busch Gardens, including 4 single-day admission tickets, 4 All Day-Dining passes, 4 Quick Queue Unlimited passes, and preferred parking
  • A chance to bask in the limelight at a reveal event for the new name in TPA’s Main Terminal

Beginning Tuesday, November 29, the public is invited to submit suggestions for the flamingo’s name online. The entry period will run for one week, until Tuesday, December 6, with one entry allowed per person. Contest participants will be asked to briefly explain on the online form why they chose the name they are submitting.

After the contest closes, the Airport will select the top three names. The public will then have a chance to pick their favorite at online beginning Monday, December 12. The winning name will be revealed on Friday, December 16 on TPA’s TwitterFacebook and Instagram accounts.
