Tampa’s music scene just got another reason to celebrate—Doechii has been named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year! This puts her in the same league as past honorees like Taylor Swift, SZA, Lady Gaga, and last year’s recipient, Karol G.

The exciting news comes just a month after Doechii made history at the Grammys, where she won Best Rap Album—only the third woman ever to take home that award. The Blake High alum is on a well-deserved hot streak, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Doechii celebrates another career milestone

On March 29, she will take the stage at the Billboard Women in Music Awards to receive this prestigious honor. She joins a powerhouse list of past winners that includes Madonna, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande.

Doechii’s rise has been nothing short of extraordinary. In 2024, The Associated Press named her breakout mixtape, “Alligator Bites Never Heal”, one of the best albums of the year, praising its seamless blend of smooth R&B and razor-sharp rap. And at the Grammys, the acclaimed “Swamp Princess” made sure to give Tampa a well-earned shoutout.

Celebrating Tampa’s culture and art

“There’s so much culture in Tampa,” Doechii said while accepting her award. “Whenever people think about Florida, they only think about, like, Miami, but Tampa has so much talent. Labels, go to Tampa. There’s talent there, OK?”

Doechii first caught the world’s attention in 2021 with her viral hit “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake”, a track that highlighted her playful, confident style. That breakout moment led to a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment—the same label that launched the careers of Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and Schoolboy Q. Since then, she’s continued to prove she’s a force in the industry with hits like “What It Is (Block Boy)” and “Stressed”, both showcasing her dynamic sound and undeniable star power.

From local stages to music’s biggest spotlights, Doechii is making Tampa proud—and this latest honor is just the beginning.
