Dairy Joy is a retro ice cream parlor that’s served Tampa since 1958

Tampa has so many amazing ice cream shops, one even offers a 6 pound ice cream challenge. It’s hard to resist the funky, quirky wonder of Dairy Joy. The scoop shop has been family owned and operated since 1958. They offer authentic soft serve cones in various dipped flavors, hard packed ice cream, milkshakes, all beef hot dogs and a lot more.

Visitors will be transported back in time via checkerboard floors, a towering Elvis statue, and more doo wop decor. Owners Karrie and Chris Mueller remain beloved figures in the Tampa community, and continue to find ways to give back and support the sweet small business eco-system in South Tampa.

Dairy Joy’s original location can be found at 3813 S Manhattan Avenue. They’ve also expanded to Seminole at 5994 Seminole Blvd. That shop is shaped like a soft serve ice cream cone and is retrofitted with pretty pink picnic tables, Edison bulbs and emerald green turf.

The Mueller’s took over ownership of the ice cream shop back in December 2018. They turned the business from cash only, to cash and card. The pair also added new efficiencies to the kitchen process. Outside of that, they’ve maintained the longstanding integrity and vibrancy of The Dairy Joy.

Dairy Joy’s menu lists authentic soft serve cones in various dipped flavors like cherry and blue raspberry. They also offer those beloved all-time classic banana splits, deliciously thick shakes as well as hard packed ice cream in various flavors including some non-dairy options for vegan/vegetarian/dairy free visitors.
