Cross-Bay Ferry breaking passenger records

The Cross-Bay Ferry has been a great success in its third go in the Tampa Bay region. Expanded service hours, guaranteed rides to and from Tampa Bay Lightning games, and an in-ferry bar have all elevated the rider experience.

The ferry has had 33,144 passengers so far this season, compared to 39,103 during its first season, according to a report from Bay News 9. Recent numbers show a major increase in weekday ridership.

Cross Bay Ferry currently offers rides Wednesday through Sunday, with fares running $8 each way.

Permanent Ferry service could arrive in the region in 2022, with the add on of commuter service to MacDill Airforce Base. Some officials feel rising ridership indicates the need for permanent ferry service, while others are skeptical about the cost to continue.

St. Pete, Tampa, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties are contributing $150,000 each to cover operating costs.
