Craft Kafe opening gluten-free concept in downtown Tampa

Craft Kafe is a beloved gluten-free food and coffee shop in St. Petersburg. It began with one location in West St. Pete and enlivened the gluten-free movement in the region. Items like the carrot cake cupcake, the date almond pastry, stacks of GF pancakes, and the classic Craft Kafe sandwich made it a proverbial staple in many local’s diets.

It soon debuted a second location in the heart of downtown St. Pete to wild fanfare. On any given day of the week you’ll find droves of residents posted up outside enjoying a pastry and a strong Kyoto drip. Soon, Tampa residents can do the same. Teddy, Ed and the entire Craft team are opening a new spot on the same block as Fly Bar and Oxford Exchange.

The growth seems natural for the gluten-free cafe. As regionalism takes over, more and more gems from both cities are expanding over the Howard Frankland Bridge.

Craft Kafe also has plans for a new location in St. Petersburg.

In addition to crafting some of the best gluten-free desserts in the state of Florida, this foodie gem also whips up tasty dog treats. Seriously, my dog Kino begs for them daily.

The interior will be feature furnishings and design work by the prolific Ron Francis, who has handled the design of the other two Craft Kafe locations. An opening timeline is still TBA, but you can follow Craft on Instagram for frequent updates.

A few recommended treats once it opens:

Lemon Poppyseed Muffin

Chicken Adobo Pastry

Cinnamon Rolls

The veggie pizza slice

Oatmeal Cream Pie

Apple Brown Betty

The Classic Craft Kafe Breakfast Sandwich

Want to experience the restaurant for yourself? Visit either of its two locations in St. Pete: 200 Central Avenue; 6653 Central Avenue.

This is a passion project for owners Teddy Skiadiotis and Ed Briones, who have consistently brought joy to diners with UC, celiacs, and other dietary restrictions.

PS keep an eye out for pie orders come the holiday season. I always order a pecan and a pumpkin pie here. One to share, and one to enjoy by myself. No regrets.
