The Urban Land Institute just published a detailed article outlining the strategic plans for the transformation and growth of downtown Tampa estimated at $3 billion. The Water Street Tampa redevelopment project is poised to double the current size of downtown with 9 million square feet comprised of 2 major hotels, 3,500 residential units, a million square feet of cultural, entertainment and retail space and 2 million square feet of office space between 18 different buildings along the water. Behind the project is the Strategic Property Partners, a real estate development company which is notably supported by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik.
The project is set to be built over the course of the next 10 years in three phases with world-class planners, architectural firms and designers involved. As part of their vision, they aim to become one of the world’s first true “smart districts” and greenest neighborhoods.
