Sweetgreen is one of the most buzzed about health food restaurants in America. The restaurant has been featured on Good Morning America, The New York Times, and NPR. They operate locations throughout the US and the sensational salad spot will expand its foot prints the region with two locations in Tampa, and one in neighboring St. Pete. The first Tampa location at 301 W Palm Avenue officially opened on December 13.
Hyde Park Village will also get its own Sweetgreen, though an official opening timeline is still TBA. This new plant-based bastion is going to be a garden of delights for Tampa diners. Their plant-forward menu also means that Sweetgreen is approximately 30% less carbon intensive than the average American meal.

The restaurant’s ultimate goal is to support farmers and producers who participate in regenerative practices—ones that give more to the land than they take away. Sweetgreen calculates an accurate carbon footprint for each of their menu items by commissioning carbon assessments of their specific suppliers. These reports illustrate how much carbon is generated at every stage of business, from seed to salad. They use this data to direct our menu and adjust as needed.
There are myriad reasons to be hyped for this new vegan hotspot. Here is just a taste of what Sweetgreen will bring to Tampa this December:
- Shroomami: Roasted sesame tofu, warm portobello mix, raw beets, cucumbers, basil, sunflower seeds, warm wild rice, shredded kale, miso sesame ginger dressing
- Fish Taco: Roasted steelhead, avocado, shredded cabbage, cilantro, tortilla chips, warm quinoa, arugula, sweetgreen hot sauce, lime cilantro jalapeño vinaigrette
- Super Green Goddess: Black lentils, chickpeas, roasted sweet potatoes, raw carrots, spicy broccoli, shredded cabbage, raw beets, roasted almonds, baby spinach, shredded kale, green goddess ranch
- Hot Honey Chicken: Blackened chicken, hot roasted sweet potatoes, warm quinoa, kale-cabbage slaw, roasted almonds, hot honey mustard sauce
Sweetgreen founders Nicolas Jammet and Jonathan Neman first met at Georgetown University in 2003. The pair bonded over their frustration at the lack of healthy food on campus. During their senior year, along with a third friend, Nathaniel Ru, they opened a 500 square-foot restaurant serving fresh salads made with organic produce. This small seed planted out of frustration has grown into one of the most popular lunch options in the states. In the summer of 2007 they opened the very first Sweetgreen restaurant.
