It’s easy being car-free in Tampa. Our record-breaking, industry-leading streetcars connect residents from Tampa Heights to Ybor City and everywhere in-between. There are golf carts available to rent downtown. We have electric scooters, regular bikes, and e-bikes you can rent at your discretion. Tampa is also home to Bayshore Boulevard, which is one of the longest continuous pedestrian stretches in the country. Lime is about to provide Tampa residents with a major transportation upgrade with their Gen4 e-bikes.

The manufacturer announced that it has commenced launching a fleet of its brand new, industry leading Gen4 e-bikes in Tampa. Lime has been working with the CIty of Tampa, local businesses, and community partners to bring safe, affordable, sustainable transportation options to the bay in the form of its new shared electric bicycles. Lime has launched dozens of its bikes so far and is permitted to have 1500 e-bikes throughout the entire City.

New Lime bikes transform micro mobility options in Tampa

“Lime’s goal is to be a permanent fixture in Tampa’s 21st-century transportation network, providing all residents and visitors with safe, affordable, and sustainable transportation options in the form of shared electric vehicles. We are so excited to be bringing our brand new, industry leading Gen4 e-bikes here and we think our neighbors in Tampa will absolutely love them. A big part of this program’s success will be about biking infrastructure so we have been working with the city on installing bike racks and planning for bike lanes to ensure folks have places to ride and to park our shared e-bikes. We look forward to seeing people in Tampa getting around safely and sustainably on our Gen4 e-bikes,” said Dan Shoman, General Manager at Lime.

“Micromobility in Tampa takes the form of both bike share and scooter share. Having these options will fill a gap that would otherwise be taken up by a car trip,” said Brandon Campbell, City of Tampa Smart Mobility Manager.

“Adding shared electric bikes to the micromoblity fleet will be a game changer for Tampa‘s downtown. I appreciate the care Lime is putting into the location of the docking stations,” said Karen Kress, Tampa Downtown Partnership’s Director of Transportation and Planning.

A car-free exploration of downtown Tampa

“We are super excited about the addition of Lime’s electric bike. It’s another great option to get around Downtown Tampa without the hassle of driving and parking a car.  Mobility options like bikes, scooters, ride sharing, mass transit and even walking are not only cost effective but it is good for our health and our environment.  Our 220 Madison student housing community is at the center of it all, and Lime’s electric bikes make our central downtown location even better for our residents,” said Omar M. Garcia, 220 Madison Owner, and US Real Estate Investor Services.

The Gen4 e-bikes will provide riders with the smoothest and most environmentally friendly shared ride available. The most significant advancement is the swappable, interchangeable battery, that is shared between both Gen4 models. This significantly enhances the efficiency and sustainability of our operations, while improving vehicle availability for riders. Swappable batteries mark a huge step for the broader shared micromobility industry and Lime is leading the way right here in Tampa.

Highlights of the Gen4 e-bike include:

  • Increased motor power to help riders easily climb hills;
  • A phone holder, allowing riders to easily navigate and follow directions without having to stop and look at their phones;
  • A new handlebar display mirroring the one on Lime’s scooters for a standardized display across vehicle types;
  • An automatic two-speed transmission that eliminates the prior generation’s gears for easier acceleration and smoother ride;
  • A modular design, extending the usable life to five years.
