Tampa officials continue to work to make the city less car-dependent, and safer for those who wish to walk, bike, and scoot to spots across the city. On March 17 Mayor Jane Castor rode at the head of the cycle pack for a “Green Ride on the Green Spine” to celebrate the newest segment of the pack. Riders enjoyed a trip from Centennial Park in Ybor City to Lykes Gaslight Park.
“As gas prices rise we’re seeing people across the country choose sustainable, affordable ways to get around and Bike to Work events like this help encourage green transportation options. We were thrilled to be a part of today’s ride with Mayor Castor and we encourage everyone to ride green and ride safe on our e-scooters around Tampa,” said Jad Hayek, Lime Operations Manager.

Tampa grows the Green Spine
The project consists of an urban trail/cycle track along Cass Street, Nuccio Parkway, and 15th Street to connect North Hyde Park from Howard and Armenia Avenues as well as Tampa Heights, Ragan Park, and VM Ybor to the Hillsborough River. The cycle track would begin at Howard Ave and Cass St. near the Armory. It will follow Cass St. into downtown to Nebraska Ave, then Nuccio Parkway into Ybor City, then 15th St. to Cuscaden Park at 21st Ave.
The project was conceptualized as part of the InVision Tampa Center City Plan to provide pedestrian and bicycle access between N. Hyde Park, Downtown, and Ybor City. It will provide a safe and accessible bicycle connection to the Tampa Riverwalk and a safe connection between neighborhoods.
Connecting downtown and West Tampa
The downtown segment from east of the Cass St. Bridge to Nebraska Avenue, has been constructed as part of the Tyler Street and Cass Street Two-Way conversion project. (The final segment between the Cass St. Bridge and Ashley Dr. will be constructed by the developer of the AER in the Arts District project.)
Excepting the 0.8-mile segment being constructed as part of the Cass St./Tyler St. Two-Way Conversion project, the net length of the project 2.6 miles. The total length of the project will be approximately 3.4 miles.
