West Tampa Sandwich Shop was listed as the spot serving the best Cuban sandwich in the city of Tampa, according to Mashed. Known as the home of the honey Cuban sandwich, the West Tampa Sandwich Shop has been putting together the area’s finest Cuban for almost 40 years. The spot received national attention when President Obama paid the business a visit and remarked how much he enjoyed their sandwich in a phone call after his trip. The West Tampa Sandwich Shop is located at 3904 North Armenia Avenue.
The West Tampa Sandwich Shop is a no fuss, no frills deli located just west of the Hillsborough River, writes Mashed reporter Amber Lake. Specializing in Cuban food for breakfast and lunch, this authentic little shop is the perfect place to get a Colada or espresso with your Cuban sandwich.

West Tampa Sandwich Shop received a presidential visit
Amber Lake continues: “If you’re looking to mix it up a bit, add a presidential touch of a slight dab of honey. Featured in the menu as the “Obama Sandwich,” the drizzle of sweetness isn’t just a guess about what the 44th president prefers but was the exact sandwich he ordered when he came to the shop back in 2012.”
This wasn’t the only spot in Tampa that made the cut. Coming in at number two is La Segunda Bakery. You really can’t go wrong with any of the items on the menu. If you’re there at sunrise, then you have to have some cuban toast with butter, and maybe a guava and cheese turnover if you have some room left. The coup de gras of dishes at La Segunda is their prized Cuban Sandwich. The delicacy is made with mojo marinated pork, smoked ham, Genoa salami, Swiss cheese, pickle & special sauce on Cuban bread.
Tampa’s Colombia Restaurant Group was ranked number 3, and Bodega in St. Petersburg was ranked number 5. You can see the entire Cuban sandwich rankings here.
