Hey all you plane spotters and running enthusiasts in Tampa Bay, here’s an event engineered for your interests: Tampa International Airport’s 5K on the Runway.

The 7th annual event takes place on Saturday, April 13 and begins at 8am. Airport officials are offering runners who can’t make it to the event to participate in their virtual 5K. Those participants will receive the same swag as the runners at the airport for participating.

How much does it cost to register?

This event gives participants the rare opportunity to run on the airport’s Runway 10-28. Individual registration costs $35 and it costs just $30 to register for the virtual 5K.

The run benefits United Way Suncoast, an organization that supports community outreach programs and provides direct and significant impact to improve the lives of thousands of people in the Tampa Bay area.

Where do you park and how early can you arrive?

Gates open at 6am. Free parking will be available only in designated areas of Hillsborough Community College, located at 4001 W. Tampa Bay Blvd., Tampa, FL 33614. There will be signs and Event Staff to guide you to the race site.

Will there be awards?

The race is chip timed, and officials have plenty of airplane shaped awards to hand out to the winners.

Airplane trophies will be presented to:

  • Overall top three men
  • Overall top three women
  • Overall wheelchair participant
  • Youth division 9 & under (top three girls, top three boy
  • Youth division 10-13 (top three girls, top three boys)
