Ybor City to Host Watermelon and Taco Festival

Ybor City bursts with flavor on the daily. New businesses, iconic restaurants and a rich history make it a must visit spot for all Tampa Bay arrivals. On Saturday, August 12, Ybor City is offering residents and visitors alike plenty of reasons to stop by, mainly: tacos and watermelons.

Melon and Taco Festival is a free event that will feature live music, food trucks, comedy acts, DJs, margaritas and more. The Joke’s on You Comedy Tour‘s Leo Gallagher and Artie Fletcher will be smashing watermelons to the audience’s delight.

The Festival is pet- and family-friendly

Stormbringer Band, Robby Steinhardt and The Music of Kansas will perform live on a stage hosted by DJ Anthony Barcelo Entertainer. The festival will be super pet-friendly with a designated pet tent and water bowls throughout the event space.

Watermelon and Taco Festival is family friendly. Bounce Houses, rock walls and face painting stations will pop up in Ybor City to delight children and parents.

Full liquor bars featuring jalapeno and watermelon to garnish beverages will also be available for adults looking to add more spirit to the celebration. St. Pete gem Story Brooke Craft Coffee Bar will be one of the featured vendors at the event. Story recently revealed watermelon ice cream sandwiches that she’ll be serving during the celebration.

Riverside Rollin Smoke chefs are creating savory pulled pork tacos filled with mac and cheese, as well as smoked brisket tacos with smoked gouda cheese and jalapeno peppers. The Frigid Frog of Pinellas is bringing watermelon Jolly Rancher snoballs to the festival.

Mr. C’s Grilled Cheese Food Truck will be slinging its special Mexi-tots — crispy tater tots topped with queso, chorizo, sour cream, chipotle, and diced jalapenos. Best of all, Melonhead Melonade Watermelon Truck will be serving amazing watermelon smoothies to help rehydrate attendees.

The event takes place at Centro Asturiano de Tampa — 1913 North Nebraska Avenue — from 1-8pm on Saturday, August 12. Visit the Facebook Event Page for full details.
