Simba, Meet Kahwa! The Lion King Comes to Straz Center this January

Dylan Scott at The Round-Up
Up-and-coming county music singer, Dylan Scott, will be performing live in Tampa this Friday. Begins at 7pm. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. The Round-Up, 10051 West Hillsborough Avenue.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
The Tampa Bay Lightning take on Eastern Conference rival Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time at home during the 2015-16 season. Puck drops at 7:30pm. Click here for tickets. Amalie Arena, 401 Channelside Drive. 

Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. at Straz Center
America’s Got Talent superstar Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. wowed television audiences with his interpretations of Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. The dreadlocked classic crooner who won season six of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, a one million dollar grand prize, and a Columbia Records contract, has spent most of 2015 on a nationwide sold-out tour that has taken him from the Apollo Theater to Caesar’s Palace. 7:30pm. $25. Tab Benoit with Dre and the Collective at Skipper's Smokehouse
Get a mix of soulful folk and powerful blues when Tab Benoit and Dre and the Collective take the Smokehouse stage. Begins at 8pm. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road. 

The Florida Orchestra: The Fabulous Forties at Ferguson Hall – Straz Center 
With award-winning swing dancers, it’s a swinging salute to one of the greatest eras of American popular music with such favorites as In the Mood, One O’Clock Jump, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Begin the Beguine, along with some of the great music of that time from films, Broadway and more. 8pm. $17.50-$47.50. 2016 Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival at Curtis Hixon Park (Sat. & Sun.)
Tampa Bay’s annual family-friendly festival commemorates the many contributions and influences African Americans have on our society.  Begins at 10am Saturday, 11:30am Sunday. Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 North Ashley Drive. 

Basketball: U Tampa vs. Saint Leo
The Spartans women's basketball team takes on the Saint Leo Lions at 2pm. The men's team faces Saint Leo at 4pm. $5 admission for each game. Martinez Athletic Center at University of Tampa, 401 West Kennedy Boulevard. 

Stageworks 2016 Gala – "Live from Tampa, It's Saturday Night"
Stageworks hosts its annual fundraising gala! The event begins at 7pm. Tickets are $200 each. Stageworks, 802-812 East Whiting Street. 

Winter Jam at Amalie Arena
ontinuing an unprecedented reign as one of the world’s largest tours and Christian music’s biggest annual tour, the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular will return to Tampa’s Amalie Arena on January 16, Co-headlining next year’s 48-city Winter Jam Tour Spectacular presented by Holt International are two fan favorites: GRAMMY Award-winning duo for KING & COUNTRY and GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Matthew West. The tour will also feature Crowder, RED, Sidewalk Prophets, NewSong, KB/Tedashii/Trip Lee*, Lauren Daigle and evangelist Tony Nolan, while the Pre-Jam Party is slated to showcase Stars Go Dim and We Are Messengers. Monster Jam at Raymond James Stadium
Visit Raymond James Stadium this Saturday for a Monster Truck Rally! This is the first of two. The second will take place on February 6. Begins at 7pm. Tickets are $100. Raymond James Stadium, 4201 North Dale Mabry. 

The Cheaters 90s Show at Skippers Smokehouse
The Cheaters is a new group made up of members from two very popular local bands, Halcyon & Someday Souvenir. Steph Callahan, Tonya Floyd, Sandi Grecco, Chrissy DeRado,and Stephanie Wood have come together to form a powerful all star cover band that is quickly gaining momentum throughout the Southeast. Expect to hear fun, current, pop and rock songs performed by 5 mega talented ladies! Begins at 8pm. $5. Skippers Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road. 

Vocalosity: The Aca-Perfect Concert Experience at Straz Center
From movies to television, a cappella is soaring in popularity. Vocalosity captures this excitement live on stage. Twelve performers, in unlimited combinations, explore styles old to the most YouTube-worthy hits. Bringing his proven style of a cappella arranging and producing, Deke Sharon gathers the world’s best singers for an aca-perfect concert experience. Begins at 7:30pm. $45-$55. Joe Rogan Live at Tampa Theatre
A standup comedian for more than 20 years, Joe Rogan sells out theaters internationally with his inquisitive and intense comedic style. Rogan is host of The Joe Rogan Experience, featuring long form conversation with guests that is one of the most popular comedy podcasts on iTunes.   Doors open at 7pm, the show begins at 8pm. Tickets are $43.50. Tampa Theatre, 711 North Franklin Street.

Tampa Bay Frogman Swim at Picnic Island Park
5K Open Water Swim and Fundraiser in support of the Navy SEAL Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non profit ranked by Charity Navigator as one of the top charities in the nation. Begins at 5am. Entry fee is $95 with 100% of the proceeds going to the Navy SEAL Foundation. Picnic Island Park, 7409 Picnic Island Boulevard. 

USF Women's Basketball vs East Carolina
The USF Women's Basketball Team takes on the East Carolina Pirates. Game begins at 2pm. Tickets start at $10. USF Sun Dome, 4202 East Fowler Avenue. 

Skylight Broadcast by National Theatre Live
National Theatre Live is the National Theatre’s groundbreaking project to broadcast the best British theater from the London stage to theaters around the world. Productions are filmed in high definition in front of an audience with cameras carefully positioned to ensure the “best seat in the house” view. Experienced by more than 3.5 million people in more than 1,100 venues around the world, National Theatre Live productions transport all the excitement of one of the world’s great theater companies from the South Bank to the Straz Center’s Ferguson Hall. Soul Circus Cowboys with Railway Kings and Strong Side Draw at Skippers Smokehouse
When the sum total is greater than the individual parts, it’s called “synergy” or in this case, “The Soul Circus Cowboys.” Their diverse life experiences and eclectic blend of musical styles combine to create a truly unique new band with a sound that is all their own. Soul Circus Cowboys are four extremely talented individuals, Billy McKnight; vocals, band leader and songwriter, Jason Alfano; drummer, Michael Bach; bass, vocals and Rick Morgan on guitar. These guys are as authentic as genuine leather and twice as tough.
